Shopping, Oats, and More

My fourth week in Spain is almsot over , which means that I have been living in Spain for a full month. Unbelievable...

Today was Friday and Laura and I decided to go shopping. We went to a mall near her house but  to get there we had to take the bus from school and walk outside for a short amount of time. It was abolutley freezing here in Seville in the morning but it was perfect when we were walking outside; it felt like a cool refreshing day in April one where it´s not hot nough to not wear a jacket but you definetley need a sweatshirt.

Stoplight across the street from the bus stop the shadows came out really nice in thie photo :)

So finally after walking past the house we made it to the bustop and caught a bus that took us to the mall.
During the walk I had a burst of inspiration for photography
so please enjoy...

I think that this one is my favorite!

Laura and I after shopping we looked a bit strange to most people because we had our backpacks with us. We sort of looked like hitchhikers....

Her dad picked us up from the mall and then we headed out to get some treats and do grocery shopping

yum!

After we got our treats we headed out to the Supermarcado (the Supermarket)
because Laura and I have a recipe for
cookies that we are going to try out tomorrow.
The recipe said that we needed ¨rolled oats¨ but her parents didn´t know what oats were in English. So after
looking it up in Spanish on her dad´s phone we finally found oats :)

Then we finally headed home and I ate an awesome delicious doughnut :)

road trip!

So last  Friday the school went on an excursion to a univeristy. These are some pictures from the ride....
I like how it took about 30 minutes to get there and we still got one of the fancy buses. Oh, Europe.

IKEA will always be universal....

A view of the river...

That´s some crazy graffiti art right there....

This is where all of the bull fights happen. Unfortunatley Allie and I won´t get to see any because the season hasn´t opened....

Statues are always nice.... :)

We´ve made it !!

We´ve made it here in Seville! After surviving the insane flight from Boston to Madrid , Allie and I are finally here!! Don´t underestimate my use of the word insane in this situation either- the trip too Madrid involved two unsupervised teenagers on an international flight to one of the biggest airports in the world (London, Heathrow) an impromptu  cab drive on a highway that took 30 minutes , tea with a total stranger, a train ride , and two days without sleep to pretty much sum things up. Did I mention that we were unsupervised?
But everything turned out all right in the end. Our host famlies picked us up at the train station and that was that.

The anticipation building up for this Exchange was huge. Allie and I had known about it for over a year and have both been interested as well as dedicated to participating in it. I have a love for languages which is why I wanted to go to Spain so badly to try and become fluent in Spanish.  Currently I speak Serbian and English fluently as well as a little bit of Mandarin Chinese (only a little bit, mind you).  I also wanted to go for the experience- I mean, who doesn´t want to spend 3 months in Europe ?!

Allie and I both attend a non-traditional Spanish school that is very similar to our school back in Rhode Island. The school has a farm and all of the kids have known each other since they were just three years old.  I think it´s safe to say that on the first day Allie and I didn´t understand a thing, we both had a severe case of jet lag. The only thing I remember from the first day of school was always hearing the word ¨vale¨ over and over again- I had no idea what it meant.  Vale actually means Ok , I had quickly learned, and just after spending 3 weeks in a foreign country I am more than Ok- I´m fantastic!
